Moves Manitoba, Makes Mark Musiciafying Montreal
Montreal percussionist and drummer, Aldo Mazza (Répercussion, Director and Founder of the KoSA Percussion Workshops & Festival, Founder of the KoSA Academy) just returned from a successful clinic tour in Manitoba (Canada) where he spent four days adjudicating at the Brandon Jazz Festival. During the event, Aldo gave several workshops to band directors and clinics in Latin percussion rhythms and techniques. Aldo then continued his tour of Manitoba in Winnipeg (The Drum Cellar) where a crowd of 250 drum and percussion enthusiasts gathered to take in his classes in Latin rhythms. Back in his hometown of Montreal (Canada), Aldo has recently performed with legendary singer and artist Petula Clark, and the Savoy-Ellington singers. He is also in demand in Montreal as a drum circle facilitator for corporate events – a new venture for Aldo who in 2005 started the successful company – “Drumparties.com”. On June 3&4 Aldo will be busy in Montreal when KoSA presents its first KoSA Montreal Weekend workshop eaturing Dom Famularo, Paul Picard, Jerry Mercer, Camil Belisle, Giampaolo Scatozza, Robert Leroux, Tony Albino, Pierre Cornier and Nasyr A. Al-Khabir. In the coming months, Aldo will be performing several shows in Montreal accompanying the famed singer Frank Sinatra Jr. Of course, this August, don’t forget to catch Aldo at his usual hang in Vermont for the 11th edition of the KoSA International Percussion Workshops and Festival. This year’s event promises to be yet again full of surprises and will certainly not disappoint. Aldo will be teaching and performing along with such renown artists as Antonio Sanchez, Giovanni Hidalgo, Bernard Purdie, to name but a few. Aldo
performs in Chamber Music Festival
Tuesday June 7 at 8pm at the Chalet on Mount Royal. Aldo Mazza will perform (with string quartet , voice and piano) the music from the film "THE PINES OF EMILY CARR." For the first time this year, hear the debut of the Festival String Quartet, a group formed especially in celebration of the Festival's 10th Anniversary. The Quartet includes members of the Chicago Symphony and National Arts Center Orchestra as well as Montreal's Aldo Mazza on timpani. This visually stimulating evening includes Murray Schafer's Beauty and the Beast, a work for Mezzo Soprano and Masks. "The Pines of Emily Carr" will feature readings from the artist's diary and projections of her paintings as well as music by Jean Coulthard. A film will about this work will soon to be broadcast on CBC TV. The program will end with one of the greatest works in the literature, Beethoven's Archduke Trio. Concerts

Aldo goes Aussie
Aldo just finished a ten-day visit to Canberra, Australia where he performed , gave clinics and master classes for the World Rhythms Week at the ANU School of Music. Aldo featured in his classes his unique WorldKit, a pot pourri of exotic and traditonal percussion instrument, enhanced with electronic concepts . Daily classes were held throughout the week on the art of improvisation and the exploration of world-rhythm concepts from various cultures including African, Arabic, Southern Italian and Cuban. A major highlight of the week was a live two-way video performance connecting New York to Australia with the help of KoSA alumnus Allan Molnar. Aldo and Allan performed a musical work in real time between Autralia and New York. The end of the week culminated with a finale concert featuring solo performances by Aldo, duets and ensemble playing with host and event director, Gary France . Aldo was also proud to present the Australian premiere of the Canadian composition “Chaka” from Vincent Dionne. This piece was originally written for Aldo’s internationally known group Répercussion. Aldo rearranged the original score to accomodate the four percussionists tat the Austrailian event. Aldo’s visit to Australia was made possible by the Canadian High Commission, (who graciously hosted Aldo and fellow Canadian artist Diana Krall), the Australian National University, Sabian, LP, and ProMark.
